With fun and beautifully placed pictures, stories, interviews, charts, and recipes, Road Trips by Jen CK Jacobs advises readers how to have the most fruitful travel experiences on the road. Divided into four distinct and concise parts, Jacobs begins by telling readers how to set out on an adventure. This preparation includes checking the car and packing snacks. Jacobs also suggests journaling and recording those experiences as well as compiling and showcasing inspiring mementos for years to come. The forth section, compiled from her journal entries, describes Jacobs’ favorite road trips. She shares what she has learned about life, death, and love. A few of her destinations include Ireland and the Joshua Tree, emphasizing the universality of this nonfiction, teenage and adult read. Lastly, Jacobs’ ends with helpful books and other travel resources to help any type of explorer better navigate the world.
Jacobs might just be my writing soul sister, especially with her journaling. I have never read an author whose words, descriptions, and feelings fall so closely in sync with my own. As kindred traveling spirits, I loved the heartfelt, vibrantly soothing descriptions and the diversity of representation in style and resources. Road Trips by Jen CK Jacobs fights any nonfiction tedium, and I never expected to see healthy recipes neatly dropped in with tales about losing her father and charts for what to pack per trip length. The organization works well—almost resembling a scrapbook—and I would even enjoy this title on my coffee table. If you are a seasoned traveler, though, Road Trips might be a little to generic and simple for your experiences. The personal stories make it more than worth a perusal through its chapters. Jacobs has inspired a new type of travel writing, although this is not new for her. If you want to read about intuitive and mindful travel or better prepare for trips, this book is for you. As a result, lets hit the road.
